Kovalainen ends in the hospital after the Race of Champions
The Finnish driver Heikki Kovalainen Formula One had to be moved on Sunday to the hospital as a precaution after having been involved in a big accident in the Race of Champions in Dusseldorf.
The Lotus Racing Team driver, former winner of this test, lost control of his Audi R8 and crashed into the barriers and a concrete wall.
Kovalainen said on its social networking site Twitter that he had made “an abrupt maneuvers with the throttle stuck and damaged rear suspension.”
“I hit, now some medical checks,” he said on the web (@ H_Kovalainen) before reporting that everything was fine.
His girlfriend Catherine Hyde, who was with the driver in the car, escaped unhurt.
The GT Portuguese Filipe Albuquerque was the surprise winner of the race after defeating seven-times world rally, Frenchman Sebastien Loeb in the final.
Albuquerque had expired prior to the new champion of the F1, Sebastian Vettel, who in turn had beaten his compatriot and seven times world champion Michael Schumacher in the quarter-finals, to the disappointment of the local public.
However, Vettel and Schumacher won the Nations Cup together for the fourth consecutive year on Saturday.
